Why this site?

In the Norwegian seas, there is high connectivity between identified ecologically or biologically significant areas (EBSAs) and the surrounding environment. Nevertheless, risk assessments or management don’t consider it. In addition, spatially resolved risk assessments are required to support better decision making within and across geographic scales. A strong coupling between coastal communities and the coastal EBSAs, goods and services, requires a broad citizen engagement for designing just and equitable solutions to reduce pressures from human activities.

What will be Demonstrated

  • Integration of ecological connectivity in conservation planning to assess spatial and time bound decisions on human activities affecting mobile species as a part of the design of the blue Trans-European Nature Network.
  • The use of “BioProtect Marine Planner” for assessing and managing cumulative risks to marine biodiversity for conservation planning.
  • The use of “BioProtect PPGIS Analyser” to demonstrate how digital citizen engagement can deliver a rich dataset on community values, priorities and concerns for socio-ecological analysis and ecosystem-based MSP.
