We are excited to announce the selection of five Associated Regions that will join the BioProtect Project, further expanding our impact and reach across Europe and beyond. These regions will work alongside our Demonstration Sites to exchange knowledge, test solutions, and promote marine biodiversity protection in their local contexts.
After a competitive call and careful evaluation, the selected Associated Regions are:
- New Zealand
- Israel
- Croatia
- Ukraine
- Poland
The BioProtect Associated Regions play a key role in demonstrating how Area-Based Management Decision Support Tools (ABM-DSF) can be effectively implemented, scaled, and adapted across different marine contexts. These tools are designed to minimise the impact of human activities, pinpoint critical areas for biodiversity conservation, apply nature-based solutions, and strengthen climate resilience, all tailored to local needs.
The Associated Regions are expected to take an active role in project activities, while they will also benefit from knowledge-sharing with Demonstration Sites, receive technical guidance, and test the ABM-DSF tools in their local contexts.
By connecting Demonstration Sites with Associated Regions, BioProtect enhances the reach, impact, and adaptability of its biodiversity protection and restoration strategies.
