BioProtect is an innovation action project which will develop technical, socio-economic and governance solutions to counteract marine biodiversity loss, and showcase their feasibility, replicability and scalability in other areas. Innovations will be designed and carried out in partnership with the relevant stakeholders (e.g., local fishermen, citizens) to ensure that the tested solutions correspond to their knowledge expectations and needs and to gain feedback on how to maximise impact and exploitation of results. The solutions that will be developed are:

• BioProtect ABM-DSF
• BioProtect Biodiversity Toolbox
• BioProtect Marine Planner
• BioProtect Good Practice Recommendation on Improved Governance

During the first 18 months of BioProtect, project partners worked to turn research needs, stakeholder priorities and technical requirements into practical digital tools for marine and coastal decision-making. This work has now resulted in the first prototypes of three BioProtect tools: the BioProtect PPGIS Analyser, the BioProtect Marine Planner and the BioProtect CO2 Calculator.

Together, these activities will help build the BioProtect area-based management solutions by combining participatory data analysis, conservation planning and emissions assessment in forms that are accessible through the web and ready for further testing and refinement.
